Rock Hill 35, Fort Mill 28
The Rock Hill Bearcats edged the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 35-28 in a Region 3-5A game at District 3 Stadium Friday night.
The ‘Cats jumped to a 14-0 lead after one quarter. Brandon Watson scored on a four-yard run for the first score, and Travis Wesley picked up a Fort Mill fumble and raced 12 yards to the end zone for the second touchdown.
Fort Mill’s Eli Craddock cut the deficit to 14-7 with a five-yard run, but Watson countered with a 21-yard scamper to make the score 21-7 at halftime.
The Jackets answered in the third period to tie the contest. Quarterback Isaiah Haynes ran for the first touchdown and passed for the second score. That made it 21-21 midway through the quarter.
Haynes passed for another touchdown later in the period, and the Jackets led 28-21 with 3:12 left. The Bearcats came back. Quarterback Matthew Wilson’s touchdown pass made it 28-27, but the ‘Cats missed the PAT.
Rock Hill took a 29-28 lead on a safety midway through the final stanza. They put the icing on the cake when Wilson scored on a 19-yard run in the final minutes.
The Bearcats improved to 1-1 in the region and 2-5 overall, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-2 in region play and 0-7 in all games.
Blythewood 40, Nation Ford 0
Blythewood scored in every quarter and routed the Nation Ford Falcons 40-0 in a Region 3-5A contest at Nation Ford Friday night.
Blythewood led 24-0 at halftime and added another score in the third period for a 32-0 lead when it was over. They completed the scoring with a touchdown in the final stanza.
Nation Ford dropped to 0-2 in the region and 1-6 overall.
Clover 45, Spring Valley 15
The Clover Blue Eagles scored in a every quarter and defeated Spring Valley 45-15 in a Region 3-5A game in Columbia Friday night.
Haven Maddox kicked a 36-yard field goal for an early 3-0 Clover lead. Spring Valley scored on a 20-yard run by Evan Jarvis to take a 7-3 advantage. Clover answered when quarterback Jaylon Hoover passed to Hunter Jaime on a 14-yard play to give the Blue Eagles the 10-7 lead at the end of the quarter.
Hoover passed to River Joye on a two-yard play midway through the second quarter, and the Blue Eagles took a 17-7 lead to the locker room at intermission.
Hoover added a pair of touchdown passes in the third stanza. The first was for 41 yards to Elijah Farmer and the second was for 60 yards to Dion Brown. That gave Clover a 31-7 lead, but Spring Valley added a score to cut the deficit to 31-15 at the end of the period.
Hoover opened the fourth quarter scoring with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Brown. That gave the Blue Eagles a 38-15 cushion. Landon Stone completed the scoring with a 20-yard run midway through the final quarter.
Clover improved to 2-0 in the region and 4-3 overall with the win.
South Pointe 10, Lancaster 2
The South Pointe Stallions took a 10-0 lead at halftime and toppled the Lancaster Bruins 10-2 in a Region 3-4A game in Lancaster Friday night.
The Stallions improved to 1-1 in the region and 5-2 overall. Lancaster dropped to 0-2 in the region and 3-4 in all games.
Chester 33, Union County 14
The Chester Cyclones took a 27-0 lead at halftime and defeated Union County 33-14 in a Region 4-3A game in Union Friday night.
The Cyclones added another score early in the third period for a 33-0 advantage. Union County scored twice before the end of the quarter, and neither team scored in the final period.
Shydem McCullough led the Cyclones with three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 43, 14, and 11 yards.
The Cyclones improved to 2-0 in the region and 5-3 overall.
Andrew Jackson 65, Chesterfield 14
The Andrew Jackson Volunteers scored in every quarter and crushed Chesterfield 65-14 in a Region 5-2A contest in Chesterfield Friday night.
Andrew Jackson improved to 2-0 n the region and 5-2 overall with their fifth straight win.
Buford 40, North Central 38
The Buford Yellow Jackets edged North Central 40-38 in a Region 5-2A game at Buford Friday night.
Buford led 7-0 after one period. The lead bounced back and fourth in the second quarter, and when halftime rolled around Buford was in front 34-24.
After a scoreless third quarter, Buford kicked a field goal for a 37-24 advantage. North Central counted to cut the deficit to 37-30. Buford answered with another field goal for a 40-30 lead. North Central completed the scoring with a late touchdown.
Buford improved to 1-1 in the region and 6-1 overall.
CA Johnson 62, Great Falls 26
CA Johnson scored in every quarter and crushed the Great Falls Red Devils 62-26 in a Region 3-1A game in Columbia Friday night.
CA Johnson led 28-18 at halftime. They added two more scores in the third period for a 42-18 lead, and then outscored Great Falls 20-8 in the final period..
The Red Devils dropped to 0-2 in region play and 2-6 overall with the loss.
Northwestern 54, Indian Land 7
