Vote for The Herald’s high school fall sports athlete of the week
Garrett Brown, South Pointe cross-country: The Stallions’ senior ran a 15:52.50 to win the Boys’ Even 5K race by nearly 22 seconds at the 4A State Qualifier at Newberry College, Nov. 3. Brown’s run helped the South Pointe cross country for a fourth-place finish at the state qualifier.
Ben Carroll, Indian Land cross-country: The Warriors’ senior ran a personal-best 17:02.90 to finish in 10th place in the Boys’ Even 5K race at the 4A State Qualifier at Newberry College, Nov. 3. Carroll, the Region III, 4A runner-up (Oct. 28), led the Indian Land cross-country team to a ninth-place, state qualifier finish.
Alivia Cleveland, Fort Mill cross-country: The Yellow Jackets’ sophomore ran an 18:39.60 to win the Girls’ Odd 5K race by nearly 22 seconds at the 5A State Qualifier at Newberry College, Nov. 3. Cleveland’s run helped the Fort Mill girls’ cross-country team to a runner-up finish at the state qualifier.
Henley Hull, Rock Hill volleyball: The Bearcats’ senior middle blocker had eight kills, five blocks and had a 100 percent serve rate in a 3-0 loss at Dorman in 5A Upper state championship match, Oct. 31. Rock Hill finished with 26-7 record overall this season.
Jordan Kent, Catawba Ridge cross-country: The Copperheads’ junior ran a 16:36.80 to finish fourth-place in the Boys’ Odd 5K race at the 4A State Qualifier at Newberry College, Nov. 3. Kent’s efforts also helped the Catawba Ridge cross-country team to a first-place finish by eight points at the same race.
Mia Royall, Nation Ford cross-country: The Falcons’ senior ran an 18:36.20 to win the Even Girls’ 5K championship by 0.4 seconds at the 5A state qualifier at Newberry College, Nov. 3. The Nation Ford girls’ cross-country team was the runner-up by two points to Mauldin in the same race.
Ava Shook, York cross-country: The Cougars’ sophomore finished sixth-place in the Odd Girls’ 5K Race at the 4A State Qualifier at Newberry College, Nov. 3. Shook’s run also helped the York girls’ cross-country team to a ninth-place finish at the same race.
