High school basketball gameday: Fort Mill boys top-10 matchup headlines weekend slate
Teams are finishing up the first half of their region schedules and looking to build up some momentum heading into the postseason. Here are the games to watch:
(Girls) No. 3 Rock Hill (18-3, 5-0) at Spring Valley (11-9, 3-2); Jan. 26 @ 6:30 p.m.
Rock Hill has swept through the first half of its region schedule and will carry its win streak against a Spring Valley team that just saw its three-game win streak snapped Tuesday night. The Bearcats beat Spring Valley, 61-53, on Jan. 10, the lone victory in Rock Hill’s 12-game win streak by fewer than double digits. Rock Hill senior De’Ashaj Crawford led all scorers with 20 points in that victory.
(Boys) No. 3 Catawba Ridge (18-2, 5-0) at South Pointe (8-12, 2-2); Jan. 26 @ 7:30 p.m.
These two met on Jan. 11 for their region openers in a 65-46 Catawba Ridge victory in Fort Mill. South Pointe, riding a two-game win streak thanks to victories over Northwestern and York, has a chance to both continue its hot streak and get one back on the region leaders.
(Boys) Nation Ford (10-10, 3-2) at Clover (11-9, 3-2); Jan. 26 @ 8 p.m.
Two of the three Region 3-5A teams that are 3-2 in the region will face off when Nation Ford travels to face Clover. Nation Ford is building momentum, riding a three-game win streak following a 68-62 overtime win over Fort Mill in its last game. Clover has alternate wins and losses so far in its region slate, the most recent result a 68-38 win over Rock Hill. Senior Jackson Burnham leads the Falcons with 23.2 points per game, while Jaylon Hoover leads the Blue Eagles at 14.7.
(Boys) No. 7 Fort Mill (13-8, 3-2) at No. 8 Blythewood (16-5, 4-1); Jan. 26 @ 8 p.m.
Fort Mill has dropped two of its past three games, with both losses coming in overtime, and look to get back on track when it travels down to play Blythewood on Friday night. Blythewood is currently atop the region, but its lone region loss came at the hands to the Yellow Jackets to the tune of 58-48 back on Jan. 10. A win here will greatly elevate the region championship chances for both teams. Fort Mill junior Nas Berry led all scorers in that Jan. 10 matchup with 22 points.
(Boys) No. 1 Lewisville (11-1, 3-1) at C.A. Johnson (9-11, 4-1); Jan. 26 @ 8 p.m.
Newly top-ranked Lewisville travels down to Columbia to face C.A. Johnson in an attempt to avenge the Lions’ lone loss of the season: a 66-57 result back on Jan. 10. A win by 10 points or greater for Lewisville would mean that Lions control their destiny for the program’s first region championship since 2017.
