Below are the nominees for The Herald’s high school athlete of the week.

Ja’Nyia Cunningham, South Pointe girls’ basketball: The 6-foot freshman scored 22 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, had six steals and three assists in a 78-15 win over Northwestern, Feb. 6.

Cunningham also had 14 points, 13 rebounds and a steal in a 90-9 win at York, Feb. 9.

Cunningham was also named to the All-Region III, 4A team this week.

Cunningham is averaging 12.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game for a South Pointe squad (24-2) that has won 22 consecutive games this season.

Morgan Davis, Catawba Ridge girls’ basketball: The 5-foot-11 senior scored 22 points, had 13 rebounds, three assists, five steals and three blocks in a 49-41 win at Indian Land, Feb. 6.

Davis also scored 27 points, grabbed nine rebounds, five steals and two assists in a 56-35 victory at Northwestern, Feb. 9.

Davis is averaging 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and three steals for Catawba Ridge (8-17) this season.

Aiden Eubanks, Fort Mill wrestling: The Yellow Jackets’ senior won a 7-0 decision at 144 pounds to clinch the second straight, 5A state championship for the Fort Mill wrestling team, who beat Summerville 32-27 at Dreher High, Feb. 10.

Eubanks was also the Region III, 5A wrestler of the year this season.

Caden Giles, Nation Ford boys’ basketball: The 6-foot-10 senior scored 11 points, had nine rebounds, four blocks and two assists in a 58-48 win over rival, Fort Mill, Feb. 9.

Giles also posted a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and four assists in a 70-65 loss at Spring Valley, Feb. 6.

Giles is averaging 9.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game for Nation Ford (13-12) this season.

Jaylen McMurray, Legion Collegiate girls’ basketball: The 5-foot-4 sophomore scored 19 points, had nine rebounds and three steals in a 66-31 win at the South Charlotte Thunder, Feb. 6.

McMurray also had 29 points, five rebounds and six steals in a 59-57 loss to United Faith, Feb. 8.

The next night, McMurray scored 18 point, had eight steals and five rebounds in a 74-20 victory over the South Charlotte Thunder.

McMurray is averaging 12.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.1 steals for Legion Collegiate (9-13) this season.

Bryce Peterson, Andrew Jackson boys’ basketball: The 6-foot junior scored 28 points in a 70-49 win over Cheraw, Feb. 9.

Peterson also scored 14 points to go with seven assists and three steals in an 80-46 victory over Central Pageland, Feb. 6.

Peterson is averaging 13.6 points, 5.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals for an Andrew Jackson team (22-3) that has won 13 straight games this season.

Aubrey Stevenson, Rock Hill girls’ basketball: The 5-foot-7 junior point guard scored 19 points, had seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a block in a 65-47 win over Blythewood, Feb. 6.

Stevenson also scored seven points, had five rebounds, six assists and seven steals in a 61-27 victory at Clover, Feb. 9.

Stevenson is averaging 10.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 3.1 steals for Rock Hill (23-3) this season.
