Wednesday’s rewind: North Meck, Myers Park, Ardrey Kell, Mallard Creek in girls’ finals

Two of the three Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ girls basketball conference tournament finals are set.

Wednesday night, the top two seeds in the Queen City 3A/4A and the SoMECK both advanced to conference tournament finals Friday.

In the Queen City 3A/4A, North Meck beat Hough 63-50, and Mallard Creek crushed West Charlotte, 72-21.

Mallard Creek will face North Meck Friday at Harding in the championship game.

Top-seeded Myers Park beat Palisades 64-31 and No. 2 Ardrey Kell beat No. 3 South Meck 68-59.

Myers Park will face Ardrey Kell in the conference final Friday at Ardrey Kell.

The Southwestern 4A semifinals are Thursday at Rocky River. Top seeded Charlotte Catholic (21-3) plays No. 4 seed Providence at 3:30. No. 2 seed Independence (20-5) plays No. 3 seed Butler (15-9) at 6:30

Wednesday’s #BIG5 top performers

Lili Booker, Mallard Creek: In a 72-21 win over West Charlotte, Booker finished with 15 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Molly Burns, Ardrey Kell: Burns had 31 points in a 69-58 win over South Mecklenburg in the SoMECK conference tournament semifinals.

Jeremiah Howard, Concord: In a 52-51 win over J.M. Robinson in the South Piedmont 3A semifinals, Howard had 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks. Concord will play Central Cabarrus for the third year in a row in the conference tournament championship game Friday at 7pm at Concord.

DJ Kent, Central Cabarrus: Kent had a game-high 27 points in a 90-49 win over Northwest Cabarrus in the South Piedmont 3A conference semifinals.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: In a 60-51 win over North Lincoln in the conference semifinals, Montanari made six 3-point shots and finished with 28 points, four rebounds.

Rabun Gap’s two-year run as N.C. Independent Schools 4A state champion is over.

Providence Day blew out the Georgia-based team 41-15 in the 4A semifinal in Charlotte Tuesday night.

Providence Day (21-9) will advance to Saturday’s 7 p.m. 4A state championship game at North Raleigh Christian.

Rabun Gap has long played in the N.C. private school leagues.

But now Providence Day is trying to win its 18th state title and will face Cannon School for the third time this season.

Cannon (22-7) beat High Point Wesleyan 73-48 in its semifinal Tuesday, getting 19 points from Khloe Thompson and 18 from Madison Drayton.

On Saturday, Providence Day will try to win its first state title since the 2019-20 season. Cannon last won in the 2020-21 season.

In two earlier meetings this season, both CISAA conference games, Cannon beat Providence Day, winning 63-47 at home on Jan. 19 and 50-45 at Providence Day Feb. 6.

Tuesday’s top performers

Courtney Ashford, Northside Christian: Ashford had 22 points in an 83-32 state semifinal win. Northside will try to win back-to-back state titles Saturday.

Infiniti Green, Sugar Creek Charter: In a 33-20 win over Valor Prep, Green had seven points, five blocks, two assists and a career-high 21 rebounds.

Khloe Thompson, Cannon School: Thompson had a game-high 19 points in a 73-48 win over High Point Wesleyan in the NCISAA 4A semifinals.

Mallard Creek, No. 3 in The Observer’s Sweet 16, rolled past West Mecklenburg in its first round Queen City 3A/4A conference tournament game Monday.

The Mavericks allowed only five points in the first half of a 70-17 win.

My’aisa Young led the Mavericks with 20 points and Alana Biosse added 18.
