Vote now for The Herald’s high school sports athlete of the week

Below are the nominees for The Herald’s high school athlete of the week.

You may vote as often as you like. Poll results may not always be shown.

Scarlett Atkins, Legion Collegiate Girls’ Lacrosse: The Lancers’ junior goalkeeper had 10 saves in a 14-6 win at Providence on March 14.

The next day, Atkins had nine saves in a 14-6 loss at Heathwood Hall.

Atkins has 49 saves for Legion Collegiate (3-5) this season.

Jaylen Burris, Northwestern Boys’ Track: The Trojans’ senior jumped a personal- and school-record 47 feet, 7 inches to win the triple jump at the Clash of the Carolinas at Cuthbertson High on March 16.

Burris also jumped 22-8.5 to win the long jump at the same event.

Ben Carroll, Indian Land Boys’ Track: The Warriors’ junior ran a personal- and school-record 10:25.07 to finish seventh in the 3200-meter run at Fort Mill High on March 13. Carroll’s time was nearly four seconds faster than the previous school record (10:29), run in 2014.

Carroll also ran a personal-best 4:50.74 to finish eighth in the 1600-meter run at Fort Mill the same day.

Nathan Hrebar, Rock Hill Boys’ Tennis: The Bearcats’ senior won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to lead Rock Hill to a 6-0 win over rival Northwestern on March 11.

The next day, Hrebar, won his No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-2, in a 5-1 loss to Nation Ford.

Hrebar is 2-3 in singles play for Rock Hill this season.

Ahleena May, York Prep Girls’ Soccer: The Patriots’ freshman, who usually plays defense, scored her first goal this season, in a 12-0 win over Comenius on March 14.

York Prep (8-1-1) also beat South Pointe (SC) 3-1 on March 11.

Aaron Morris, Buford Boys’ Soccer: The Yellow Jackets’ senior scored a goal and had two assists in a 5-0 win at North Central on March 14.

Buford (4-5) also lost 3-0 at Andrew Jackson on March 12.

Morris has two goals and five assists for Buford this season.

Ella Nighbor, Clover Girls’ Track: The Blue Eagles’ sophomore ran a personal-best 2:26.25 to win the 800-meter run in a meet with Spring Valley on March 12. Nighbor also won the 3200-meter run (13:02) at the same meet.

Nighbor broke two school records in the 1600-meter run (5:22.89) and the 3200-meter run (11:51.05) at Clover’s inter-squad scrimmage on Feb. 28.

Alyssa Robinson, Westminster Catawba Girls’ Soccer: The Indians’ freshman scored three goals to lead Westminster Catawba to a 6-2 win at Lee Park Prep on March 12.

Robinson also had the lone goal for her team in a 2-1 loss to Grace Academy on March 14.

Robinson has five goals and one assist for Westminster Catawba (1-3) this season.

Sarah Sexton, Catawba Ridge Girls’ Soccer: The Copperheads’ senior scored two goals and had six assists in a 16-0 win at York on March 12.

Sexton also scored two goals and had two assists in a 12-0 victory at Lancaster on March 15.

Sexton, a Furman University commit, has four goals and 14 assists for Catawba Ridge (8-3) this season.

Ava Shook, York Girls’ Track: The Cougars’ sophomore ran a personal-best 59.08 to win the 400-meter dash in a home meet on March 14. She also won the high jump (5-0) at the same meet.

Shook also won the 800-meter run in 2:21.10, and finished ninth in the high jump (5-0) at the Clash of the Carolinas’ at Cuthbertson High on March 16.
