Vote now for The Herald’s high school sports athlete of the week

Below are the nominees for The Herald’s high school athlete of the week.

You may vote as often as you like. Poll results may not always be shown.

Mackenzie Boggess, Clover track and field: The Blue Eagles’ junior won the triple jump in 35-11.5 at York High, March 28.

Boggess also won the long jump in 17-4.66 at the same meet.

Garrett Brown, South Pointe track and field: The Stallions’ senior won the 1,600-meter run (4:19.96) and the 3200-meter run (9:24.01) at South Pointe, March 25.

Brown also won the 800-meter run in a personal best, 1:57.26, and the 3,200-meter run (9:33.06) at York High, March 28.

Tucker Gandy, Fort Mill baseball: The Yellow Jackets’ junior tossed a complete-game with eight strikeouts and 88 pitches, to earn the victory on the mound, in a 4-2 win at Spring Valley, March 28.

Gandy was perfect on the mound through six innings in the same game.

Fort Mill (9-2) also won 2-1 at Spring Valley, March 25.

Gandy is 2-0 on the mound with a 1.65 earned-run average (ERA) and 21 strikeouts in 17 innings of work this season.

Kevin Gonzalez, Legion Collegiate boys’ soccer: The Lancers’ senior forward scored two goals to help Legion Collegiate to an 8-0 win over York Prep on senior night, March 25.

Carmen Kelly, Northwestern softball: The Trojans’ freshman went 3-for-4 with a RBI, three runs and two stolen bases in a 12-6 win at Rock Hill, March 25.

Kelly also went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in an 18-14 loss to Lancaster, March 26.

Kelly finished off the week going 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and two stolen bases in a 5-3 loss at Indian Land, March 28.

Kelly is hitting .478 with a home run, two triples and five RBI for Northwestern (3-6) this season.

Jackson Mullen, Catawba Ridge baseball: The Copperheads’ senior went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI, while going five innings on the mound with seven strikeouts, allowing one hit to earn the victory as Catawba Ridge won 13-1 at Lancaster, March 25.

Mullen also went 1-for-4 with a run and a RBI in a 10-0 win over Lancaster, March 27.

Mullen finished off the week by going 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in an 11-0 victory at Lancaster to complete the series sweep, March 29.

Catawba Ridge is 14-1 overall this season.

Gracie Robinson, York Prep girls’ soccer: The Patriots’ senior scored three goals and had one assist in an 8-0 win at Westminster Catawba, March 25.

York Prep (10-1-1) has won nine straight games, outscoring their opponents 62-6 overall this season.

Jackson Sellers, Buford baseball: The Yellow Jackets’ sophomore went 1-for-4 at the plate with a RBI, while going 1.2 innings on the mound with two strikeouts in a 5-4 win over North Central, March 26.

Sellers also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run and two RBI in a 9-1 victory at North Central, March 29.

Sellers is a true utility player as he played first base, third base, right field and pitched in the two wins this week.

Sellers is batting .412 at the plate, while boasting a 1.50 ERA on the mound for Buford (11-1) this season.

Sarah Sexton, Catawba Ridge girls’ soccer: The Copperheads’ senior scored a goal and had five assists in a 12-0 win at South Pointe, March 26.

Sexton also had a goal and three assists in a 4-0 victory at Charlotte Country Day, March 28.

Sexton finished off the week with three goals and three assists in an 18-0 win over York.

Sexton, a Furman University commit, has 13 goals and 27 assists for a Catawba Ridge team (13-3) that has won nine straight games this season.

Amelia White, Indian Land softball: The Warriors’ went 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a 14-5 win at York, March 26.

White also went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a RBI in a 5-3 victory over Northwestern, March 28.

White is batting .512 with two home runs, nine RBI, three triples and 23 runs scored for Indian Land (5-5) this season.
