Marvin Ridge basketball blows past York at the Showdown at the Border
Marvin Ridge High School had no problem winning its battle against York at the Showdown at the Border basketball tournament at Clover High School on Saturday.
The Mavericks dominated from the start en route to an 81-43 victory.
Marvin Ridge started hot and kept a 30-point lead nearly the entire game. Thirteen of the 15 Mavericks on the roster scored.
Marvin Ridge guard Alex Hutchens, coming off a 28-point game against Myers Park, made five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 19 points. Forward Wyatt Haines finished with 11 points.
“It was about playing as a team and playing fast,” Marvin Ridge coach Patrick McCarthy said after the game. “We talked about pushing in transition and finding each other.”
Marvin Ridge scored in the paint at will and found several ways to score points off turnovers and fastbreaks, including a one-handed slam by forward Alex Voss in the third quarter.
York briefly put together a run in the fourth quarter, but Marvin Ridge quickly extinguished it.
York fell to 1-4 and will travel to face Fort Mill on Dec. 10.
Marvin Ridge won their third game of the season and will host West Cabarrus at home on Dec. 10.
