Charlotte FC’s Patrick Agyemang selected to MLS all-star team

Charlotte FC forward Patrick Agyemang was named to the MLS all-star team Wednesday.

He is the club’s first member to be chosen to play in the league’s all-star game, set this year for July 23 in Austin, Texas, against the Liga MX all-stars.

Agyemang, who has scored eight goals in 2025 for Charlotte FC, is competing with the U.S. men’s national team in the Gold Cup. He has scored five goals for the USMNT.

Charlotte FC head coach Dean Smith spoke of Agyemang during Monday’s press conference.

“He’s getting better; he’s still got lots to learn as well,” Smith said. “The timing of his runs can be better at times. I saw the chances he had (in Sunday’s Gold Cup win against Haiti), the goalkeeper made a good save (on a first-half breakaway), I think he was slightly offside. He just went a little bit too early.

“He’s a difficult player to play against. He doesn’t get an awful lot of protection in MLS. It seems he’s having a lot more fouls called against (his defenders) playing international football. So he’s one that’s going to keep learning. He’s not played a lot of football, even though he’s 24 years old, coming through the college system. So he’s having to become a bit of a sponge over the last 18 months to learn as much as he can.”
