ESPN has a new sports radio partnership in Charlotte.
WFNZ 92.7 FM is now Charlotte’s ESPN Radio station, beginning Thursday. The station will blend ESPN’s national lineup with local sports talk, returning the ESPN programming to the Charlotte consumer base.
The move comes months after 730 The Game, which previously aired ESPN Radio in Charlotte, rebranded as InsideTheGame.bet. With the switch, ESPN’s play-by-play, national talk shows and coverage of events like the NBA Finals, College Football Playoff and MLB games are landing on WFNZ’s FM signal.
“ESPN has long set the standard for covering the biggest live sporting events and the athletes who define them,” Jeff Rickard, WFNZ program director, said in a news release. “We’re thrilled to team up for premier play-by-play and insightful nightly conversation. Combined with our award-winning local lineup, this partnership gives Charlotte the very best in local and national sports coverage.”
The move marks the end of Infinity Sports Network programming during nights and weekends on WFNZ.
“The iconic sports brand of ESPN and the historic sports brand of WFNZ 92.7 makes a perfect combination to deliver our Charlotte sports fans the best in local and national sports coverage every day of the week,” said Marsha Landess, vice president and general manager of Radio One Charlotte. “We now truly deliver the best of the best.”
