Five finalists announced for this year’s SC Mr. Football award
The five finalists for South Carolina’s Mr. Football were announced on Friday afternoon.
The finalists are Dorman’s Kentavion Anderson, South Pointe’s J’Zavien Currence, Carvers Bay’s Zyon Guiles, Dillon’s Zamaurious Robertson and Northwestern’s Tamarion Watkins.
Mr. Football is an honor given to the top public school high school football senior football player in the state and based on performance on and off the field. The winner will be announced at halftime of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl in Myrtle Beach on Dec. 13.
Richland Northeast quarterback and North Carolina State signee Will Wilson won the award last year.
Meet the 2025 Mr. Football finalists
Kentavion Anderson, DB, Dorman: Anderson is a Clemson commit and ranked as the top prospect in the state by 247Sports Composite and No. 2 by On3/Rivals.
Going into Friday’s game, Anderson had 59 tackles and three caused fumble. In his three-year career, he has 229 tackles (20 for loss), three interceptions, four blocked kicks and two defensive touchdowns.
J’Zavien Currence, QB/DB, South Pointe: The two-way player is South Carolina commit and No. 1 prospect in SC by 247Sports Composite and ESPN. Currence plays both quarterback and defensive back for the top-ranked Stallions.
Going into Thursday’s games, Currence had thrown for 1,587 yards, rushed for 785 and has accounted for 22 total touchdowns on offense. Defensively, he had 34 tackles and three interceptions.
For his career, Currence has 3,518 total yards and 43 touchdowns. Defensively, he has 185 career tackles and 10 interceptions.
Zyon Guiles, OL, Carvers Bay: On3/Rivals ranks Guiles as the No. 1 prospect in the state and is No. 4 by 247SportsComposite. He also is a South Carolina Gamecock commitment.
Guiles is trying to become just the third offensive lineman to win the award, joining Daniel’s Kyle Young (1996) and Dillon’s Josiah Thompson (2023).
Zamaurious Robertson, WR, Dillon: The Dillon receiver is a North Carolina commit and No. 26-ranked prospect in SC by On3/Rivals and 247Sports Composite. This season, Robertson has 58 catches for 1,206 yards and 13 touchdowns. Defensively, he has eight tackles and an interception.
For his career, Robertson has 141 receptions for 2,505 yards and 26 touchdowns. On defense, he has 33 tackles, eight interceptions, two forced fumbles and a defensive touchdown.
Tamarion Watkins, DB, Northwestern: The hard-hitting defensive back is a Texas A&M commit and ranked No. 8 in SC by 247Sports Composite and On3/Rivals. Watkins was part of the Trojans’ state championship team last year. This season, he has 48 tackles, two sacks and an interception.
For his career, Watkins has 123 tackles, four interceptions, 10 pass break-ups and 4.5 sacks.
