Ardrey Kell football coach Greg Jachym is stepping down. Here’s what we know

Ardrey Kell High football Greg Jachym is stepping down.

The Knights coach informed the team of his decision Thursday afternoon.

“After a great deal of thought, I have decided to step down as head football coach of Ardrey Kell High School,” Jachym said. “This has been a very difficult decision, but it is the right one for me and my family at this time. I am forever grateful to the players, assistant coaches, parents, and community who have supported our program and I am extremely proud of what we’ve built here at AK. I’m excited to move into an administrative role where I can continue supporting student-athletes.”

Jachym, who coached the Knights for seven seasons, starting in 2019, never had a losing season, going 5-5 in 2024. His 2025 team was 6-5 and lost to Providence in the first round of the NCHSAA 8A playoffs.

His best team, which went 11-2 in 2019, came in his first season.

Jachym was an assistant coach at Ardrey Kell before becoming its head coach. He has been at the school since 2007. When he took over as head coach, the Knights had gone three years without a winning season.

Knights’ athletic director Jeff Sprenger said the school hopes to have a new coach by late April, early May.

“Coach Greg Jachym has been an important part of the Ardrey Kell community for 19 years,” Sprenger said. “I am grateful for his leadership, his commitment to our student athletes, and the high standards he upheld within our football program. We will begin the search for our next head football coach immediately, with the goal of having new leadership in place by the start of spring football practice to ensure a smooth and successful transition.”
