  • Rankings compiled by Randall Clark and Rick Lewis track regional prep teams
  • Lincoln Charter 11-game streak and Myers Park tie for conference lead noted

It’s time for the postseason and two new teams join The Observer’s Sweet 16 this week.

As the NCISAA state playoffs begin and Charlotte-area conference tournaments start, Myers Park joins the boys’ poll and Lincoln Charter moves into the girls’ rankings.

The Sweet 16, which began in the 1984-85 school year, ranks the top teams in The Observer’s coverage zone, which currently includes NCISAA and NCHSAA teams in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union counties.

The rankings are compiled by longtime N.C. prep basketball experts Randall Clark and Rick Lewis, regulars on The Observer’s Talking Preps streaming show.

Lincoln Charter’s girls (18-4) have won 11 straight games, and the Eagles finished 14-0 in the Catawba Shores 2A/3A/4A conference regular-season. Lincoln Charter begins conference tournament play Monday against Langtree Charter (1-17).

Myers Park (17-7) tied with West Meck for first place in the Greater Charlotte 7A/8A conference under rookie coach Dory Hines.

The Mustangs beat rival South Meck, 56-45, Friday to earn the tie for first. Myers Park starts conference tournament play in Wednesday’s semifinals, facing either Hough or Garinger.
