One of N.C. State’s key guards from the 2025-26 season is staying in the ACC.

Sophomore Zamareya Jones committed to play at Louisville after entering the transfer portal. She spent two seasons with the Wolfpack women’s basketball team before opting to leave the program.

In an Instagram post, Jones wrote, “Now or never … I chose me.”

Last season, Louisville finished 29-8 overall and 15-3 in ACC play. The Cardinals advanced to play Michigan, which beat N.C. State, in the Sweet 16. The Wolverines defeated the Cardinals en route to the Elite Eight. Duke defeated Louisville in overtime en route to its second consecutive ACC Championship.

The Wolfpack lost to the Cardinals in the regular season, 88-80 in overtime. It was Louisville’s first win over N.C. State in their last seven meetings. The Cardinals had not won since Feb. 13, 2020, when they pulled off a 66-59 win in Raleigh.

Who else is on Louisville’s roster?

Jones joins players like Imari Berry, Mckinley Randolph and Tajianna Roberts.

Berry was the ACC Sixth Player of the Year, while Roberts earned All-ACC honors.

Jones also joins a team led by Jeff Walz, a finalist for ACC Coach of the Year, and former Boston College head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee, who was recently hired as an assistant.

Jones was one of the most-improved players in the ACC this season, doubling her production in scoring and rebounding, contributing 14.9 points and 3.3 assists per game. She averaged 7.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per appearance during her freshman season.

Jones’ decision to leave came after the Wolfpack’s season ended in the NCAA Tournament’s second round. No. 7 seed N.C. State lost to No. 2 seed Michigan, 92-63, in Ann Arbor. Jones had 16 points, five rebounds and nine assists.

In its previous game, the Pack picked up a 76-61 win over No. 10 seed Tennessee behind Jones’ career-high 30 points.

Jones reached double figures in four straight games and five of its last six.

Jones, a guard, is from Greenville and was a five-star recruit out of North Pitt High School. She earned McDonald’s All-America honors and was a member of the Naismith Girls High School All-America honorable mention team.

Mallory Collier, Tilda Trygger and Devyn Quigley also entered the portal after playing for the Wolfpack. None of them have committed to a new program.
