Updated: See Boston Marathon finish times for 200-plus Charlotte-area runners
More than 30,000 runners are taking on Monday’s Boston Marathon in about as good of conditions as they could ask for: cool temperatures, a mix of clouds and sun, and a brisk tailwind — all ingredients for fast times.
More than 200 of those participants are from the Charlotte region, and we’ll be tracking all of them throughout the day with the goal of recognizing each below (listed alphabetically, with ages and hometowns). As of 5:29 p.m., just one of 223 Charlotte-area runners remained on the course at the 130th edition of the world’s most prestigious 26.2-mile race.
But first, some highlights:
- Erin Del Giudice, 32, a former Davidson College runner who is now a stay-at-home mom in Charlotte, was by far the fastest finisher among area women at Boston. As a member of the professional women’s field, she ran a 2:33:54, a mark that easily qualified her for her second U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon and was 24th among the pros.
- The top area men’s finishers were all from Charlotte: Brenden Allen, who ran 2:22:49; Carter Coughlin, who finished in 2:26:23; and Dan Kerr, with a 2:33:26. The fastest amateur women were Kelsey McGuire (of Tega Cay, S.C.) in 2:52:17; Olive Allen (of Charlotte) in 2:52:19; and Sara Kenefick (also of Charlotte), who finished in 2:52:54.
- Other notables include Christopher Lees, the Charlotte Symphony’s resident conductor, who ran a 2:58:51; Megan Hepp Hovis, a 44-year-old Charlottean who ran a 2:57:24 to rank among the area’s fastest female finishers — nearly two decades after finishing 12th at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon; and Matt Nolan of Charlotte, who ran a 4:11:46 after raising nearly $230,000 for charity in memory of his late mother.
- The youngest area finisher was 20-year-old Lucy Ratterree, a former all-state runner at Charlotte Latin who now attends the University of South Carolina. The oldest? Vince Fioramonti, who clocked a 3:55:47 at the age of 70.
- It’s also worth mentioning that Murphy Smith — a graduate of Charlotte’s Ardrey Kell High School who is now a Navy officer in a master’s program at Boston College — completed Boston as part of the event’s professional men’s field in 2:08:58. The time was good for 23rd place. The 23-year-old’s hometown is listed as Boston due to his ties to a training group there, but he told The Charlotte Observer this month that he would have preferred to claim Charlotte as his hometown.
