Steelers Biggest Roster Hole Raises Questions for Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting to see who will be the team’s starting quarterback for the 2026 season.

Aaron Rodgers remains a free agent, though recent reports suggest he’ll return to the team for at least one more campaign. If he does, ESPN revealed the future Hall of Fame quarterback could be facing a major problem with the team’s wide receiver corps.

“The biggest question might be what the Steelers will do if a receiver suffers an injury or if rookie Germie Bernard struggles,” ESPN wrote when describing the team’s biggest roster hole.

“Roman Wilson barely played in his rookie season and had just 12 catches in 2025, his second season. Ben Skowronek can be a useful jack-of-all-trades but has only nine receptions over his two seasons in Pittsburgh. Fourth-round pick Kaden Wetjen is primarily a return specialist.”

The Steelers already boast a much improved wide receiver corps for Rodgers heading into the 2026 season. DK Metcalf returns as the team’s top wide receiver, but Pittsburgh also traded for former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman and drafted Bernard in the second round of the 2026 NFL draft.

If that’s not enough, the Steelers could look to the free agent market which sports a recovering Tyreek Hill, versatile Deebo Samuel and former San Francisco 49ers star Jauan Jennings.
