NBA Veteran Bogdan Bogdanovic Suggests Solution to Flopping Issue

The discussion surrounding flopping in the NBA picked up after Thursday night’s Game 2 matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The reigning NBA-champion Thunder have developed the reputation of a team that exaggerates contact in order to get to the free-throw line. And while this strategy is effective, it’s drawn the ire of many fans around the league.

Early in Thursday night’s game, Thunder center Chet Holmgren drew a foul on Los Angeles’ Deandre Ayton - flailing backwards and falling to the floor while battling for position in the post. The Lakers challenged the call, and officials ultimately changed the ruling to a foul on Holmgren.

Serbian basketball star Bogdan Bogdanovic, a nine-year NBA veteran, took to social media with a solution for the league’s flopping issue.

“I think it’s time for a red card in basketball. If you flop to get advantage on a play, play gets reviewed, instant red card. Thank you!” the Los Angeles Clippers guard wrote on X.

The NBA introduced new flopping rules starting in the 2024-25 season. A flopping call, defined as exaggerating contact to deceive referees, yields a non-unsportsmanlike technical foul resulting in one free throw for the other team.
