Rangers Reveal Corey Seager Update After Exiting Starting Lineup

The Texas Rangers revealed an update on shortstop Corey Seager after a scary home plate collision on Thursday against the Kansas City Royals.

Seager has had yet another injury-riddled season to start his 2026 campaign. The 32-year-old already had a trip to the 10-day injured list on May 18 with lower back inflammation.

The 2023 World Series MVP only played five games off the injured list after dealing with another injury scare on Thursday.

Texas manager Skip Schumaker revealed that Seager is beat up after the collision, with pain in his jaw and ribs.

The Rangers stated that Seager is "day-to-day."

Seager is out of the lineup for the Rangers series opener against the Boston Red Sox. Infielder Ezequiel Duran is starting in Seager's place tonight, much like he did when he missed time on the injured list.

While on the field this season, the shortstop has not played to his standard offensively or defensively.

Despite nine home runs in only 47 games played, Seager is slashing just .186/.284/.373 with only 33 hits and an eye-popping 54 strikeouts to 23 walks.

The Rangers were receiving good production out of him during his five games off the injured list. In those games, he hit two home runs with 11 total bases.

Seager has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, but usually he makes up for that with near MVP level play in his 100-or-so games on the field. Over his 11 year career, Seager holds a .862 OPS with a .285 batting average. He normally has great contact with some power while excelling defensively despite his slow speed.

Duran has performed very well in his extended playing time. On the season, Duran is slashing .296/.349/.454 with four home runs, 45 RBI and 15 doubles in 60 games. Duran holds a career OPS under .700, so the Rangers have been enjoying his production from their utilityman.

The Texas Rangers have been hot recently after a rough start to their season. As of Friday, they sit 34-34 and in second place in the American League West Division. They are coming into the series against Boston coming off four straight series wins.

The Rangers have not sniffed the playoffs since their magical 2023 World Series winning postseason run, with a healthy Seager, the team could claw back into the Wild Card or division race in a tight American League.

There should be more updates on Seager this week, but as of Friday, he is not expected to go back to the injured list.
