USMNT Squad for World Cup 2026- Key Players, Coach, Captain, & Young Stars To Watch Out
The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) is one of the teams with the most pressure this summer at the 2026 World Cup. The USMNT will play in its second World Cup as a host nation after doing so back in 1994.
For the 2026 World Cup, the USMNT will feature multiple players who play at well-known clubs in Europe and players who play in the MLS. The USMNT head coach is Mauricio Pochettino, an Argentine manager who has experience at a high level in football.
Pochettino has coached elite clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, PSG, and Chelsea, but the USMNT job is the first national team role of his career.
The USMNT will have many key players to count on this summer, but the biggest name in the squad is Christian Pulisic, who plays for AC Milan in Italy and is one of the best-known players in the tournament.
38-year-old Tim Ream is the captain of the USMNT this summer and will be heading into his second World Cup with the national team. Pochettino trusts the Charlotte FC defender and is one of the first names on the team sheet.
Other Key Players for the USMNT
28-year-old left back Antonee 'Yedi' Robinson has become a fan favorite because of how crucial he has been for the national team. Robinson is known to be a pacy fullback who is great at defending but good at going forward as well.
Robinson has lately been involved with goal contributions, and his recent contribution was a goal against Germany last week, where he scored a volley.
Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams are expected to play many minutes for the USMNT this summer and are veterans of the national team, as they have multiple appearances for the USMNT over the past few years.
Chris Richards is viewed as the team's best defender in the squad and is viewed as another leader in the making within the squad due to his presence in the defensive line. Richards recovered in time for the World Cup and is expected to play a lot of minutes this summer.
The first-choice striker for the team is Folarin Balogun, who is in hot form ahead of the World Cup. Balogun has 13 goals so far in 2026 across club and country; he scored for the USMNT in a friendly match against Senegal a few weeks ago.
Young Stars To Watch Out
Alex Freeman is easily a young star fans should pay attention to within the USMNT. The 21-year-old defender has quickly become an important option for Pohcettino in the USMNT despite being the youngest player on the roster.
Freeman was one of the best players in the MLS while playing for Orlando City last year and earned a move to Spain with Villarreal earlier this year. Freeman made his national team debut last season and shone during the 2025 Gold Cup.
Freeman is seen as one for the future in terms of leadership at the back, with his impressive defensive abilities as a right back and as a center back in a three-back formation.
Ricardo Pepi is another young star who could make an impact this summer for the USMNT. The 23-year-old is competing with Balogun for the striker position and had an impressive season with PSV in the Netherlands.
Pepi scored 16 goals for PSV after 26 games played in the Eredivisie. Pepi provided an assist in USA's 3-2 win over Senegal on May 31, 2026.
