Austin Reaves Expected to Receive $178 Million Offer in Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers are facing a lot of questions going into free agency.

One of them is regarding the future of LeBron James, and another is about guard Austin Reaves, who is set to hit unrestricted free agency.

Reaves should be one of the top names on the market, and there should be plenty of suitors showing interest in the Lakers' playmaker.

The Brooklyn Nets have long been viewed as a suitor for Reaves, and Dan Woike of The Athletic reported that Reaves is expected to get a massive offer from Brooklyn.

"Multiple front-office sources around the league, granted anonymity to freely discuss an opposing player, expect Reaves to have interest from the Brooklyn Nets, with a four-year, $178.5 million contract expected to be offered. League sources said the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks are among a group of interested teams that can create space to make competitive offers. Other teams could also emerge," Woike wrote.

Woike also mentions the Pistons and Hawks, but the Nets are widely expected to at least offer Reaves a sizable deal when free agency begins.

What the Lakers Can Offer Reaves

In a vacuum, the Lakers can offer Reaves a five-year deal that would be around $239.3 million.

However, LA was hoping to sign Reaves to a cheaper deal, especially with lingering questions about LeBron James' future and the team needing to add other playmakers in order to be able to remain competitive.

Reaves did say before that he would want to stay in LA, but he could also take the best offer presented to him in free agency and cash in while he has the chance.

"I would like to be here, but it is the NBA though, it is a business," Reaves said during the season.

"Unfortunately for me, I was not talented enough to come into the league at 18 or 19-years-old, so a couple contracts behind someone that is a one-and-done. Anybody that says we do not play the game for money to me is lying."

Reaves should be heavily sought-after when free agency begins, but the Lakers will try and do whatever it takes to keep him as Luka Doncic's running mate.
