Clemson Tigers’ Battle taken in fifth round of NFL Supplemental Draft

Former Clemson left tackle Isaiah Battle was picked by the St. Louis Rams in the fifth round of the NFL supplemental draft Thursday.

Battle became the first supplemental pick since 2012 (Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns).

The Rams took a risk, as their bid means they won’t have a 2016 fifth round pick and therefore have the least picks in the draft currently (five).

At left tackle, they have 2014 No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson out of Auburn, but on the right side, sixth-round selection Brandon Washington occupies the spot on the current depth chart.

He’ll have plenty of young competition as St. Louis picked 2015 offensive tackles in the second (Wisconsin’s Rob Havenstein, 6-7 321), third (Louisville’s Jamon Brown, 6-4 323) and fourth rounds (Iowa’s Andrew Donnal, 6-6 313).

Battle started 16 of the 27 games he played as a Tiger with 32 knockdowns in 1,336 career snaps.

He worked out on Tuesday in Clemson, weighing in at 6-6 312. He ran as good as a 5.21 40 with a 8-foot and 5-inch broad jump and 24 1/2 inch vertical.
