Ahead of Sunday’s Clemson-South Carolina baseball game, the Tigers set the rivalry aside to pay tribute to late Gamecocks radio broadcaster Tommy Moody.

Moody, a former USC baseball player, had worked as South Carolina’s radio color commentator since 2000 before he died unexpectedly on Oct. 17 at the age of 72.

Ahead of Game 2 of the Clemson-USC baseball series, the first at Doug Kingsmore Stadium since Moody’s death, Clemson left a bouquet of roses and a tribute to Moody in the visiting radio press box. Moody had a seat reserved in the booth with a placard that read: “In Loving Memory ... Tommy Moody ... Father, Son, Gamecock.”

USC baseball radio play-by-play broadcast Derek Scott thanked Clemson baseball for the “very nice gesture” in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, adding that “We’re all thinking of Tommy this afternoon.”

USC also honored Moody ahead of its 2024 baseball season opener, adding a sign with his name under the press box at Founders Park and inviting his family onto the field for a pregame ceremony.

In place of Moody, Stuart Lake, a former USC baseball assistant and Charleston Southern head coach, has been providing color commentary alongside Scott on the Gamecocks Sports Network.

No. 10 Clemson and No. 19 South Carolina are set for a 2:02 p.m. first pitch Sunday in the second game of their annual Palmetto Series. After Friday’s opener at Founders Park was postponed because of rain, Clemson won the first game, 5-4, in 12 innings on a walk-off home run at Segra Park in Columbia.

The teams decided to play their Saturday (neutral site) and Sunday games as scheduled after Friday’s rain delay and, according to a release, will make up that game at Founders Park later in the season.
