Clinton College will add several new sports in the coming years.

Athletic Director Daphnie Johnson said the historically Black college in Rock Hill, S.C., will add baseball, softball and mens golf, mens and womens soccer, and mens and womens cross country.

These will, in varying degrees, be scholarship sports.

Johnson said the prominence of these sports in this region made the introduction of new sports more viable.

“That’s from my background and my experience at other universities, helping to increase the enrollment here at Clinton College and being a part of the community here,” she said. “A lot of the sports the community has, such as soccer, is a big hit here in Rock Hill.

“This will also help put us on the map with other sports that are a part of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Division I.”

Johnson said the introductions of these sports will be staggered, with softball and soccer coming first.

Clinton plans to use the City of Rock Hill’s athletic facilities while it works on building its own.

Clinton already offers mens and womens basketball, womens volleyball, cheerleading and e-sports. This year the mens basketball team made it to the championship game of the NCCAA, where they lost to Bethel University of Indiana.
