Ten Newberry football players were selected to the South Atlantic Conference preseason all-conference team, including two from the area.

Offensive lineman Stephen Nance, a senior from Northwestern, and defensive lineman Alstevis Squirewell, a senior from Great Falls, were named to the first team.

Nance was one of the SAC’s top offensive linemen last season. He started every game for the Wolves, earning second team All-SAC honors and establishing himself as a stalwart in the team’s pass and run blocking.

Squirewell was a terror on the Wolves’ defensive line last fall. He was a first team All-SAC pick after making 66 tackles and finishing second in the league with 16.5 tackles-for-loss.

Other locals playing for Newberry this fall include: Corey Dover (Jr. DB, York), Caleb Belton (Soph. DB, Northwestern), Dakota Mozingo (Soph. OL, South Pointe). The Wolves also signed Tommy Sanders (Fr. QB, Chester), Shea Rodgers (Fr. K/P, Indian Land), Trevin Watts (Fr. OL, Lancaster), Luc Greene (Fr. DL/LB, York) and Manny McCord (R-Fr. ATH, Indian Land), who don’t report until next week.

Some of those players may redshirt.
