Winthrop lacrosse head coach Julika Blankenship announced Friday morning that Alaina Girani will miss the 2017 season after suffering a broken foot late last week.

Girani, the reigning Big South defensive player of the year and Big South Tournament MVP was voted by the league’s head coaches to the preseason All-Conference team in January.

The Eagles will begin their 2017 season on Wednesday, February 15 on the road at Elon and open at home on Sunday, February 19 against Siena.
