Winthrop’s Seabolt, Dilger named golfers of the week
Winthrop swept the final Big South Conference golfer of the week honors, as senior Jennifer Dilger received the woman's award and sophomore Zach Seabolt earned the recognition for the men.
Dilger (Palmdale, Calif.) captured medalist honors at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate earlier this week by firing an even-par 144 (73-71) for a two stroke victory at the par-72, 6,009-yard Mimosa Hills Country Club course in Hickory, N.C. It was Dilger's second individual crown of the year and her fourth top-5 finish of the season.
Seabolt (Raleigh, N.C.) tied for eighth-place at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate with a 3-under 213 (66-74-73) on the par-72, 7,042-yard Gaston County Country Club course in Gastonia. It was his eighth top-10 finish in nine events this year. His opening round 66 was tied for first after 18 holes, and his play helped Winthrop tie for fifth in the 15-team event.
The Winthrop golf teams will now prepare for the 2015 Big South Championships which get underway next Monday, April 13 with the women's tournament at the DeBordieu Golf Club in Georgetown, S.C. The men's tournament will be held April 20-22 at The Patriot at Grand Harbor near Ninety Six, S.C.
