The 2015 Big South Conference softball awards were announced Tuesday afternoon with three Winthrop players receiving recognition.
Winthrop sophomore Maddie Antone was named All-Big South Honorable Mention while K.J. Uyeno was named to the All-Freshman Team and senior Sutton Watson earned All-Academic Team honors.
Antone followed up her 2014 Big South Freshman of the Year campaign with career numbers in several categories including hits, runs, doubles, RBI, total bases and on-base percentage. In 2014 Antone was a member of the All-Big South Second Team.
Uyeno played a key role in the Eagles’ success this season after missing the first nine games of the season. She enters the tournament batting .253 with 20 runs, nine RBI and an on-base percentage of .472. Uyeno leads the team with 30 walks and ranks fourth in the league.

Watson is 9-6 on the year with a team-best 3.40 ERA. She’s struck out 85 and walked 29 in 101 innings of work. Through the 2014 fall semester Watson has earned a 3.64 GPA while seeking a degree in chemistry with a minor in biology.
