Eberhardt leads Winthrop to sixth at Rees Jones Intercollegiate golf tourney

The Winthrop men's golf team finished sixth our of 10 schools at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate which concluded Tuesday afternoon at the Jones Signature Course.

The Eagles fired a 54-hole total of 910 (307-299-304) as they were able to improve from ninth place following the first round to seventh after 36 holes and finally finishing sixth. Senior Nick Eberhardt (Fort Mill, S.C.) led Winthrop as he tied for sixth place after firing a 3-over par 219 (77-70-72). His score was four shots behind tournament medalist Isaiah Logue of tournament winner Liberty.

The Flames captured the team title by 21 shots over second place Campbell. Liberty finished at 865 (295-286-284) and had four of the top 10 individual finishers.

Following Eberhardt on the Winthrop leaderboard were juniors Zach Seabolt (Raleigh, N.C.) and Bradley Kauffman (Greenville, S.C.) who tied for 29th place after shooting 230. Seabolt had rounds of 75-80-75 and Kauffman shot 81-74-75. Freshman Sawyer Mills (Easley, S.C.), shot 231 (74-75-82) and tied for 34th, while sophomore Andy Horgan (Wraysburg, England) finished 51st at 251 (84-83-84).

Winthrop returns to action Sept. 28-29 when the Eagles travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the Shoal Creek Invitational.
