Winthrop’s Thorsson named co-player of the week
Winthrop senior Magnus Thorsson has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Co-Attacking Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Thorsson shares the honors UNC Asheville’s Chuka Anyafo as this is the first time Thorsson has garnered the award.
Last week Thorsson scored two goals to lead the Eagles to a 4-3 victory at Gardner-Webb in double overtime. His first goal came in the 87th minute, tying the game at 3-3 after the Runnin’ Bulldogs had just taken the lead. Thorsson then headed home a free kick in the 105th minute to push the Eagles win streak to three games and keep them undefeated in league play at 2-0. It was the second straight game in which he netted the golden goal in double overtime.
Thorsson now has 11 career goals with four of them going for game-winners.
