Winthrop women’s basketball: Nunn nominated for Senior Class award
Winthrop senior Schaquilla Nunn has been nominated for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award, given annually to a Division I senior with notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Nunn will now await the announcement of the top-30 women’s basketball candidates. Through an online voting process, the top 30 is narrowed to 10 finalists before the winner is selected in the spring.
Nunn was a first team All-Big South Conference selection in 2015 and was also voted Defensive Player of the Year after ranking ninth in the nation in blocked shots with 3.6 per game. Nunn has already shattered the Winthrop school records for blocked shots in a season and a career. She set a single season record last year with 109 blocks and will enter her final season with 279 career blocks.
Winthrop announces new assistant coach
Carlotta Kloppenburg has been hired as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Winthrop on Kevin Cook’s staff following one season as a graduate assistant.
While playing for the PLNU Sea Lions from 2012-14, she helped lead her team to the National Christian College Athletic Association playoffs and was a two-time PacWest Academic All-Conference selection.
