Winthrop freshman Lauren Proctor and sophomore Mariana Humberg captured their singles flight titles in the 2015 College of Charleston Tennis Classic which concluded Sunday.
Proctor (Bradenton, Fla.) defeated Katrine Steffensen of Princeton 6-7, 6-4, 7-6(4) on Saturday before knocking off College of Charleston’s Katherine Schofield 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday.
Humberg (Sao Paulo, Brazil) downed Princeton’s Nicole Kalhorn 6-7(6), 6-0, 7-6(3) on Saturday before defeating Rachel McNeely of Charleston 7-5, 6-0 on Sunday.
This event wraps up the 2015 fall season for Winthrop’s women. They begin the spring season on Jan. 18 with an indoor match against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Men's golf: Winthrop junior Zach Seabolt tied for 11th place in the 2015 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic final round on Sunday at the El Paso (Texas) Country Club.
The Raleigh, N.C. native, who was among 21 participants in the tournament who were named to an All-America team last season, finished the tournament at 3-over par 216. He shot an opening round 74 and followed that with a 70 on Saturday over the par-71, 6,889-yard course. He had a final round of 72.
As a result of his appearance in the tournament, Winthrop will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Western Refining.
Vanderbilt senior Zack Jaworski started the day in fifth place on the leaderboard but fired a 4-under-par 67 in the final round to become the 41st champion of the prestigious event and earned the Lee Trevino Trophy.
