Winthrop faces Campbell Friday in Big South men’s soccer tourney semis
Winthrop men’s soccer travels to Greensboro, N.C., to face Campbell Friday in the Big South Conference tournament semifinals.
The No. 1-seeded Eagles dropped UNC Asheville 3-0 in the opening round on Tuesday, with Patrick Barnes, Magnus Thorsson and Max Hasenstab getting the goals. No. 4 Campbell produced a late comeback to eliminate Longwood, 3-2. Friday’s game at Bryan Park kicks off at 4 p.m. and can be viewed live on the Big South Network.
Winthrop, the Big South regular season champs, beat Campbell 4-1 on Oct. 31 behind a pair of goals from Jordi Lluch and one each for Jordan Stoddart and Max Hasenstab. Friday’s game will be the program’s 20th Big South Conference tourney semifinal, as the Eagles try to reach the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in coach Rich Posipanko’s final season before retiring.
