Johnson, Williams top weekly honors

Winthrop junior guard Keon Johnson and junior junior guard/forward Erica Williams were named the Big South Choice Hotels Players of the Week for games played Nov. 30-Dec. 6 on Monday.

Johnson averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in leading the Eagles to a 2-0 Big South start. The Mansfield, Ohio native scoring 18 of his game-high 27 points in the second half of a one-point win at Charleston Southern – including Winthrop’s final 12 points. He also stole the inbound pass on CSU’s final possession to seal the victory. Against Presbyterian, Johnson logged 18 points, including 10 in the second half, with six rebounds. For the week, Johnson was 12-of-17 from the field (70.6 percent), 5-of-6 from beyond the arc (83.3) and made 16-of-20 free throw attempts (80).

Williams recorded two double-doubles and averaged 21.5 points and 10 rebounds per game last week. At Charleston Southern, the Rex, Ga. native had 19 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked two shots in 39 minutes. On Saturday against Gardner-Webb, Williams had a season-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 81-62 win.
