Eagles drop second game to Presbyterian
Presbyterian’s Weston Jackson hit a game-wining double in the eighth and the Blue Hose were able to keep Winthrop from rallying for a 2-1 victory on Saturday.
Presbyterian struck first scoring a run in the the first off of one hit and two errors from the Eagles.
The Eagles (16-15, 4-4) tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth when Babe Thomas hit a sacrifice fly to score Roger Gonzalez. But it was Jackson’s game-wining double that scored Tyler Weyenberg (two runs) to help Presbyterian take the lead.
Mark Lowrie (3-for-4) is now hitting .367 on the season while Gonzalez (1-for-3) scored Winthrop’s lone run.
Starting pitcher Zach Sightler (4-2, 3.57 ERA) went 7.1 innings with seven strikeouts. Four Blue Hose pitchers combined for eight strikeouts.
Winthrop will look to take one game out of the weekend series in Game 3 against Presbyterian (17-13, 4-4) Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
