MarShawn Lloyd, David Spaulding out for South Carolina for tonight’s game against Vanderbilt
South Carolina will be without its top rusher and a key defensive back for Saturday night’s game at Vanderbilt.
Running back MarShawn Lloyd and David Spaulding were not listed on South Carolina’s dress list and were not spotted among the players leaving the team bus when the Gamecocks arrived at FirstBank Stadium. He had been battling what he called a thigh contusion that forced him to miss the second half of last week’s loss to Missouri.
USC radio play-by-play man Todd Ellis said that Lloyd couldn’t practice in any capacity this week.
Lloyd ranks second in the Southeastern Conference with nine rushing touchdowns. He’s also eighth in the league in yards rushing with 556 yards on 100 carries this fall.
Wake Forest transfer Christian Beal-Smith and Juju McDowell should shoulder the rushing load on Saturday against a Vanderbilt team that’s allowing 152.5 rush yards per game.
The Gamecocks traveled Dante Miller, Rashad Amos, Lovasea Carroll, McDowell, Beal-Smith for the contest.
Spaulding will likely be replaced by Navy transfer B.J. Gibson.
