Moving on up: South Carolina slides into Top 20 of latest national rankings
The national belief in the Gamecocks is trending upward.
One week after making their Top 25 debut at No. 23, Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football team jumped inside the Top 20 of the major national rankings.
USC was No. 19 in both The Associated Press Top 25 and the latest USA Today Coaches Poll that were updated Sunday.
South Carolina defeated Missouri 34-30 on Saturday in the team’s final SEC game of the season. Beamer’s team finished 5-3 in conference play. At 7-3 overall, the Gamecocks are bowl eligible and can achieve the program’s fifth 10-win season if they go undefeated in their final three games.
The Gamecocks have won four straight SEC games, the most since 2012, and have three straight wins over AP Top 25 teams — a program record.
USC hosts Wofford on Saturday (4 p.m., SEC Network Plus and ESPN+) in the team’s final home game.
The Gamecocks were ranked No. 21 in last week’s edition of the College Football Playoff rankings. The new CFP Top 25 comes out at 7 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN.
