Meechie Johnson is primed for a big year with South Carolina men’s basketball.

After transferring back to the Gamecocks after one season at Ohio State, he’ll likely serve as the team’s starting point guard and chase a repeat of his All-SEC season from 2023-24. But Johnson is 23 years old and a redshirt senior on his final year of eligibility — and he knows life after basketball gets closer every day.

So Johnson’s already finding ways to make his NIL and revenue share earnings last for years to come after USC, starting with his newest business venture:

House flipping.

“My whole thing is just building generational wealth and making your money last,” Johnson said in October at SEC basketball media days in Birmingham, Alabama.

“UnHeardOfHomes,” as Johnson calls it on his Instagram stories, is the Cleveland, Ohio, product’s real estate business. He frequently posts updates showcasing the progress of his remodels on his page. Johnson’s first property, located in the Shaker Heights suburb of his home city, was listed for sale Oct. 12.

Johnson described himself as the investor of the project, and said he has a team which leads the hands-on process for him back home while he prepares for the 2025-26 season with the Gamecocks.

“I got a property manager, somebody who I paid to run the whole show back home, great contractors, people who worked on the house while things is getting done,” he said “And they just kind of give me updates on what needs to be done, get a budget before, and kind of just go from there.”

His property, a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home, is currently listed for $206,000. The home was built in 1947, according to Zillow. Johnson purchased the 1,687 square-foot home in June for $103,000, and remodeled the interior before it went back on the market.

Why Meechie Johnson is passionate about house flipping

The inspiration for the business comes from his upbringing, Johnson said, and a desire to make his money last and continue to grow after his playing days are over.

“The whole mindset is just making your money grow,” he said. “You know, I come from Cleveland, Ohio. It’s pretty ghetto out there.”

While only on his first property, Johnson said he enjoys the real estate business and sees his venture continuing while at South Carolina and beyond — regardless of how long his basketball career might last at the professional/overseas level.

“If you know real estate, it’s a lot that goes into it,” Johnson said. “I’m thankful that God was able to give me a great team. It’s life after basketball. That’s just something that I love to get into, and it’s fun.”
