South Carolina WBB picks up transfer commitment from an SEC rival, report says
South Carolina women’s basketball has picked up a transfer portal commitment from an SEC rival.
On3’s Talia Goodman reported Thursday that Texas guard Jordan Lee will be transferring to play for Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks.
Lee will have two years of eligibility for South Carolina. This is the first transfer for USC since the portal opened last week.
Lee took a visit to South Carolina this week.
The 6-foot guard is coming off the best year of her career with the Longhorns. Lee averaged a career-high 13.2 points per game this past season (her sophomore season) and was second in scoring on the team.
Her 42.2% clip from the field was also a career-best. Lee improved her averages in rebounds (2.5), assists (2.5), steals (1.5) and blocks (0.5) per game from her freshman to sophomore year.
Lee should be a familiar face to the Gamecocks as she’s played against South Carolina seven times in her young career. In those matchups, Lee averaged 8.7 points but she scored at least 10 points in the last four times out against USC. Lee led Texas to a win over South Carolina in Las Vegas this past season with a team-high 19 points.
Lee started her career as a role player off the bench for Texas. She played in 40 games during her freshman campaign, starting just five, but averaging just under 20 minutes per game. Lee was named to the All-SEC Freshman team for her efforts.
This past season, Lee started all but one of the 39 games she played in and averaged 31.7 minutes per game.
A Stockton, California native, Lee was a McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school. She was ranked No. 9 in the class of 2024 by ESPN.
