Shane Beamer shares latest timetable for Neff Giwa, other summer enrollees
South Carolina football wrapped up its 15th and final spring practice on Saturday, even though there was no Garnet & Black Spring Game this year.
Over the next few weeks, head coach Shane Beamer will hold individual meetings with every single player on the roster, giving them an evaluation of the spring and explaining areas for improvement heading into the fall.
There are a number of players who Beamer won’t meet with: The guys who haven’t enrolled yet.
While a majority of South Carolina’s 2026 recruiting class graduated high school early and enrolled at USC in January — in time to take part in spring practices — a few guys are finishing up their senior year of high school and won’t get to Columbia until this summer.
Those include: four-star offensive lineman Darius Gray, four-star athlete Sequel Patterson, WR Caden Ramsey, CB KJ Johnson, LS Matthew Oh, transfer OL Ashton Mozone (Iowa Western Community College) and, the newest signee, O-lineman Neff Giwa.
Giwa is undoubtedly the most-interesting prospect to monitor. A 6-foot-7, 280-pound rugby player from Ireland, he’s never played a snap of competitive football but became the hottest recruit in the nation after a three-second video of Giwa doing drills went viral.
After visiting South Carolina and other big-time schools, Giwa returned to Ireland in March, when he committed to the Gamecocks. USC announced his signing on March 29.
On Tuesday, Beamer reiterated that he still doesn’t have a definitive answer on when Giwa will arrive, but said everything is still on track for him to enroll this summer.
As for the six other summer enrollees? South Carolina begins summer school on May 26 and, Beamer said, he expects those guys to be at the team meeting the night before (Memorial Day).
“We anticipate everyone being in the meeting at that time,” Beamer said. “Now, there may be some guys — depending on final exams and when they finish school — that might be a little late getting here. There are some high school graduations we don’t want these mid-year guys to miss.
“But everybody,” he continued, “should be here when we crank up summer school that week. And if there’s anyone behind that, it may just be by a few days or so.”
