After two years without signing a tailback, South Carolina adds RB commitment
After not signing a running back in its last two recruiting cycles, South Carolina finally has a tailback on the board.
On Friday, four-star tailback Brayden Tyson announced his commitment to USC, becoming the ninth member of the Gamecocks’ 2027 recruiting class.
A 6-foot, 235-pound running back from Snellville, Georgia, the 247Sports’ Composite Rankings slots Tyson as the No. 357 overall recruit and No. 23 athlete in the nation.
Tyson’s decision comes just a few weeks after he put South Carolina in a top five alongside Florida State, Miami, Purdue and Rutgers while setting up official visits with each school. But, perhaps as a sign of how the visit went, Tyson only took his visit to Columbia before announcing his pledge.
As a junior at Brookwood High last year, Tyson carried the ball 163 times for nearly 1,300 yards (7.9 yards per carry) and 16 touchdowns.
Tyson was offered by South Carolina early in the process, getting on the Gamecocks’ board under former running backs coach Montario Hardesty in May 2023. South Carolina was still a factor as USC changed running backs coaches from Marquel Blackwell (2024-25) to now Stan Drayton for the upcoming season.
And once he signs with the Gamecocks, Tyson will be the first high-school tailback to enroll at USC since Matt Fuller in 2024.
