It was a busy afternoon in the lobby of the Clover High School gymnasium as nine student-athletes signed national letters of intent to play college sports.

Katie Robinson, Taylor Stewart, Kayla Ogle, Taylor Morneault, Kailey Carpenter, Cole Hybarger, Kyle Kalick, Kaleb Strader and Graham Whitesides were joined by family, friends, teammates, classmates and coaches at the signing.

Hybarger, Kalick, Strader and Whitesides are all members of Hank Wofford’s Clover baseball program and all four will be playing at the junior college level next season. Hybarger - an outfielder - Kalick - Clover’s offensive player of the year last spring - and Strader - an All-Region catcher in 2016 - are headed to USC Sumter. Whitesides - who has played first base, outfield and pitcher for the Blue Eagles - signed with USC Union.

Morneault was the lone athlete to sign Monday that doesn’t play a bat sport. She signed to play basketball at Converse College. The four-year point guard at Clover will play the same position at Converse, where she plans on majoring in physical therapy.

Robinson, Ogle, Stewart and Carpenter are all members of Shea Hall’s successful Clover softball program.

Ogle - an All-State pitcher last spring - will continue her softball career at Salem College, where she plans on majoring in biology. Robinson is bound for Lees-McRae to study nursing and likely play first base and pitcher. Stewart - the Blue Eagles’ catcher - will play at Converse College and study business. And Carpenter - an infielder - signed with Newberry, where she wants to major in physical education or sports management.
