New South Pointe AD confirmed

Lance Roberts will replace Mike Drummond as South Pointe High School’s athletic director.

Drummond led the school’s athletic programs since 2006.

Roberts has coached ninth and 10th graders since the fall of 2005 and also coached softball for three years. He’s been the head ninth grade football team coach since 2013. He came to South Pointe from Chester where he coached four different sports, and he’s been named a teacher of the year at both schools.

“Since our inaugural year, Coach Roberts has been dependable and has demonstrated a tremendous energy level and work ethic,” said South Pointe principal Al Leonard. “He genuinely cares about each student and shares my desire to have South Pointe’s student-athletes excel in the classroom, in athletics, and in the community. We have established a great working relationship.”

Roberts’ hiring was confirmed at Monday night’s school board meeting. He officially takes over in July but is already working with Drummond to ensure a smooth transition.
