Rock Hill High girls’ basketball player Whitney Malone will play at Jackson State Community College next season after signing with the Lady Generals.

Malone was a two-year contributor to the Bearcats’ varsity team, helping Rock Hill to 46 wins during that time. She was a team captain this last season and graduated with a 3.72 GPA. Malone had other college basketball options, including Greensboro College, Brevard College, Pfeiffer University and Cheyney University (Pa.), but opted for Jackson State C.C. in large part for one reason.

“Whitney gets a chance to further her education and play basketball on the college level but most of all she gets to be closer to her mother, Tara Malone,” said Rock Hill coach Kenny Orr. “That was the ultimate factor in her recruitment.”

Malone averaged over seven points, four rebounds and nearly four steals per game last year for Rock Hill High. She also had 133 deflections. She plans on majoring in veterinary medicine and would like to continue playing basketball at a four-year school after her junior college stint concludes.
