Fort Mill girls disqualified from lacrosse playoffs
The Fort Mill High School girls’ lacrosse team had a date for a rematch with Nation Ford in the second round of the 4A state playoffs last Thursday – but they couldn’t keep it.
The Yellow Jackets were disqualified from the state playoffs, athletics director Dwayne Hartsoe said the day before.
The team was bounced from the playoffs “due to a rules violation involving a disqualified player from the previous game,” Hartsoe said.
“The FMHS administration is disappointed in this disqualification; however, we accept responsibility for the violation and accept the ruling by the SCHSL.
“This was an avoidable violation that ended the Fort Mill girls’ lacrosse season prematurely.”
Fort Mill beat Christ Church 12-9 in the opening round of the playoffs Tuesday, setting up a rematch with Nation Ford.
During the the Falcons’ 11-5 win against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, a Fort Mill player was ejected from the game.
According to S.C. High School League rules, that player must sit out the next game.
In the Yellow Jackets’ case, however, the Fort Mill player played in the first-round playoff game against Christ Church.
Fort Mill’s disqualification put Christ Church back into the playoffs; Christ Church lost at Nation Ford on Thursday night.
