High school roundup: Trojan softball breaks out the bats vs. Cougars

The Northwestern Trojans girls’ softball team pounded out 16 hits and defeated the York Cougars 15-1 in the completion of a Region 3-4A game, which was suspended on April 7.

Kori Wancheck picked up the win. She struck out 11, while allowing only four hits.

Rachel Marion and Tiana Lewter led the Trojans with three hits each.

Cassie McInerney led the Yellow Jackets at the plate with a home run, while Joss Halcom added three hits to the attack.

Peyton Lemire picked up the win for Fort Mill as the Yellow Jackets improved to 15-6 overall and 8-4 in the region.

Boys’ Soccer

Clover 2, Fort Mill 0: The Blue Eagles got one goal in each half and beat the Yellow Jackets in a Region 3-4A game at Fort Mill.

Christian Berardo and Brandon LaForge scored the goals for the Blue Eagles.

Clover improved to 8-1 in the region, while Fort Mill dropped to 6-4 in region play.

Rock Hill 3, South Pointe 1: The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead at halftime and went on to register a win over the Stallions in a non-region game at Rock Hill.

Girls’ Soccer

Indian Land 2, South Pointe 1: The third-ranked Warriors built a 2-0 lead at intermission and defeated the Stallions in a non-region match at Indian Land.

Katherin Kilroy and Kate Komorous scored the goals for Indian Land, while Alexys Loveless was credited with an assist.

Indian Land improved to 11-3-3 with the victory, while South Pointe fell to 9-6 with the loss.

Boys’ Golf

South Pointe 150, Charlotte Catholic 152: Chris Taylor fired a 36 to share medalist honors and lead the Stallions to a win over Charlotte Catholic in a non-region match at Pinetuck Golf Club.
