High school notes: Rock Hill, Northwestern, Chester and Lewisville baseball ranked in final polls

The South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association released its final regular season state rankings Wednesday morning and four local squads are included.

Rock Hill is No. 3 in the 4A list after recently clinching the Region 3-4A title. The Bearcats open the state playoffs Thursday night against Riverside. They’re joined in the 4A rankings by Northwestern, which finished second in Region 3-4A and will host Dorman on Thursday night in the state playoffs.

Chester won Region 3-3A and checks in at No. 7 in the final 3A state rankings. The Cyclones host Blue Ridge on Friday night in the first round of their district tournament.

And Lewisville finished second in Region 3-A and is ranked No. 5 in the 1A poll. The Lions, who spent the entire season ranked, begin their quest for a first state title since 2010 on Thursday night against Calhoun County at 7 p.m.

Indian Land 2A Upper State track qualifiers

The following Indian Land athletes won Region 4-2A track and field championships at Tuesday’s meet:

▪ Mikayla Wallace won the 100 and 200-meter dash

▪ Kaitlyn Rodman won both the 1600 and 3200 meters

▪ The boys’ 4x800 relay unit - consisting of Austin St. John, Malcom Reed, Chris Nahum and Connor Leyland - won

▪ Kace Faulkner won boys’ discus and shot put

The following Warrior athletes qualified for the 2A Upper State championship:

▪ Malaysia Reed; Nazahah Fitzgerald; Chloe Sherman; Baileigh Sizemore; Braeden Rushing; Crystal Johnson; Marlin Davis; Joshua Jacobs; Malcolm Reed; Austin St. John; Chris Nahum; Brandon Sellers; Anthony Blue; Markese McCloud; Girls’ 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relays; Boys’ 4x400 relay.

The following Lewisville track and field athletes won Region 3-A championships at Tuesday’s track meet:

▪ Seventh grader Megan Flynn won the 800 and 1600 meters

▪ Sophomore Natalie Foos won the 400 hurdles

▪ Senior Sierra White won the discus

▪ The girls’ 4x400 relay unit consisting of Flynn, Foos, Jordan Green, and Shaterria Robinson won

The following athletes have qualified for the 1A Upper State championship:
