High school roundup: Former Trojan Julisa Tindall wins CAA high jump title

Former Northwestern track and field standout Julisa Tindall has made an early impression in her college career, winning the Colonial Athletic Association high jump title last weekend during the conference’s championship meet in Williamsburg, Va.

Tindall, a sophomore who won the South Carolina 4A high jump state title three straight years, claimed victory by a healthy margin last weekend, clearing 1.83 meters, or 6-foot, besting second-placed Elon jumper Megan Kirschling, who jumped 1.76 meters.

Youth football coaching clinic May 19 at Northwestern: Northwestern Trojans Youth Football Coaching Clinic will be held Tuesday, May 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school’s cafeteria. This clinic is open to any coaches in levels ranging from small fry to middle school and will feature former Trojans coach Jimmy Wallace presenting the NFL’s Heads Up program. The Trojans will be practicing from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and clinic-participating coaches are invited to attend prior to the clinic.

McBee wins Region 3-A tournament: The Panthers claimed the Region 3-A golf tournament Tuesday afternoon with a team score of 365.

Great Falls was second at 416, with The Governor’s School third at 421. Lewisville finished fourth with a score of 500.

Grant Sellers of McBee fired an 80 to earn medalist honors. Travis Payine of Great Falls was named to the All-Region team.

Late Monday

Softball: Chester 19, Richland Northeast 1: The Cyclones pounded out a dozen hits and routed the Cavaliers in a loser’s bracket game in the Class 3A playoffs.

Elise Carter led the Chester attack with three hits and two RBIs. Alexis Kelly and Sheena Halsey each added a pair of hits and two RBIs to the Cyclones offense.

Chester plays at Chapman in an elimination game on Wednesday.
