High school notebook: Northwestern pitcher named player of the year
Northwestern’s All-State pitcher Kori Wancheck repeated as the Region 3-4A player of the year. Wancheck got the nod in a vote of the region’s coaches. She’ll play softball at USC Upstate next season.

Kerr makes first team All-Big South
Chester’s Austin Kerr was name to the Big South Conference baseball first team all-conference on Monday. Kerr, a left-handed senior, is 8-1 as a starter for the Chanticleers with an earned run average of 3.36.
