GIRLS BASKETBALL

Rock Hill wins twice

The Rock Hill Bearcats won a pair of non-region games earlier in the week.

They raced to a 19-2 after one period and toppled Gaffney, 42-31, on Tuesday night at Gaffney.

The ‘Cats led 24-8 at halftime and cruised from there to the win. Unique Burch and Gracie Wilson led the Bearcats with 11 points each.

Rock Hill toppled Lancaster, 62-39, on Wednesday night at Rock Hill.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 18-2 first quarter lead and never looked back. The ‘Cats were up 35-10 at halftime and coasted from there to the one-sided victory.

Jada Jones led Rock Hill with 13 points. Mya Wise added 12, while Dynasty Pichardo chipped in 10.

Rock Hill is 4-0 on the year.

Clover splits a pair

The Clover Blue Eagles divided a pair of non-region contests earlier in the week.

On Monday night they went on the road and lost to Dorman, 58-54. Janelle Carter led the Blue Eagles with 22 points. Aylesha Wade added 16 for Clover.

On Tuesday night the Blue Eagles routed Forestview, 69-29, in another road game.

Clover led 22-9 after one period and never let up. At halftime, they were in front 43-15, and they cruised from there for the win.

Wade led the scoring parade with 20 points. Mariana Ballard and Ashley Farmer added 11 points each to the winning effort.

Clover is 3-1 on the year.

Nation Ford topples Indian Land

The Nation Ford Falcons defeated the Indian Land Warriors, 66-43, in a non-region game at Indian Land Monday night.

The Falcons led 16-14 after one quarter, but a solid second period gave them a 45-22 lead at the break.

They moved on from there for the win.

South Pointe tops Butler

The South Pointe Stallions defeated Butler, 56-43, in a non-region game at South Pointe Wednesday night.

The Stallions bolted to a 19-9 lead after one period, but Butler regrouped and cut it to 30-23 at halftime. South Pointe led 41-32 when the third period was over, and the team gradually pulled away in the fourth quarter to get the victory.

Jamia Blake led the Stallions with 17 points and seven rebounds. Trinity Adams added 13 points and four rebounds to the winning effort.

The Stallions are 2-0 on the year.

Chester wins two games

The Chester Cyclones won two non-region contests earlier in the week.

They defeated Broome 38-34 on Monday night at Chester and followed with a 51-47 victory on Tuesday night over C. A. Johnson on the road.

The Cyclones are 2-0 on the year.

Comenius defeats York Prep

Comenius topped the York Prep Patriots, 54-31, in a non-region game at Comenius Tuesday night.

Comenius led 11-5 after one quarter, but the Patriots rallied and cut the deficit to 20-16 at the break. Comenius used a strong third period to take a 38-24 lead when it was in the books, and they pulled away in the final quarter for the win.

Catawba Ridge wins over York Prep

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads defeated the York Prep Patriots, 66-33, in a non-region contest at York Prep Monday night.

Catawba Ridge led 14-4 after one period and upped the count to 35-10 at halftime. They coasted from there for the victory.

Catawba Ridge is 3-1 on the year.

York defeats Stuart Cramer

The York Cougars edged Stuart Cramer 32-30 in a non-region game at York Wednesday night.

Lewisville loses two

The Lewisville Lions opened the season with a pair of non-region losses.

On Monday night they lost to Chesnee, 41-20, at Lewisville.

Chesnee led 14-5 at halftime and used a strong third quarter to take a 27-13 lead when it was over. Chesnee outscored the Lions 14-7 in the final period. Malaurie Martin led Lewisville with 13 points.

On Wedesday night McBee bested the Lions, 35-20, at McBee.

Lewisville led 3-2 after one quarter and 15-10 at halftime. McBee rallied in the third period and was in front 23-16 when it was completed. They pulled away in the final period for the win.

Allie Keels led the Lions with nine points, 15 rebounds, a steal, and a block. Martin added six points for Lewisville.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Northwestern edges Lancaster

The Northwestern Trojans edged the Lancaster Bruins 61-58 in a non-region battle at Lancaster Tuesday night.

The Trojans were led by Qua Allison with 15 points. He got offensive help from A. J. Thompson, who scored 14, and Dwight Priest, who tossed in 11.

The Trojans are 2-0 on the year.

Rock Hill splits a pair

The Rock Hill Bearcats divided a pair of non-region games earlier in the week.

On Tuesday night they went on the road and topped Gaffney, 60-48.

The ‘Cats broke a 15-15 tie after one period and took a 29-14 lead at intermission. They were in front 44-36 after three quarters and gradually pulled away in the final eight minutes for the victory.

Luke Bracey led the charge for Rock Hill with 14 points. Chase Gibson added 11 and Donte Evans chipped in ten.

Lancaster toppled the Bearcats, 63-46, at Rock Hill on Wednesday night.

Rock Hill led 14-11 after one period, and they were in front 26-24 at halftime. Lancaster turned it up a notch in the third quarter and led 47-35 when it was in the books. They padded their lead in the final eight minutes.

Bracey led Rock Hill with 13 points. Ronnie Ouzts added 11 points.

Rock Hill is 1-3 on the year.

Fort Mill gets by White Knoll

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets defeated White Knoll, 55-46, in a non-region game at Fort Mill Tuesday night.

The Jackets took a 21-16 lead after one quarter, but White Knoll cut it to 31-28 at halftime. Fort Mill countered and took a 45-38 lead after three quarters, and they held on down the stretch to record the win.

Keyan Mims led Fort Mill with 18 points. Xavier Easterling added nine to the winning cause.

Fort Mill is 3-1 on the year.

Clover defeats Forestview

The Clover Blue Eagles opened the season with a 68-47 road win over Forestview.

The score was tied 15-15 after one period and 27-27 at the half. Clover used a solid third period performance to establish a 50-36 cushion when it was complete. They continued the assault in the fourth period to earn the win.

Markus Nastase led Clover with 23 points.

South Pointe nips Butler

The South Pointe Stallions edged Butler, 49-48, in a non-region game at South Pointe Wednesday night.

The Stallions took a 17-9 lead after one quarter, but Butler cut the deficit to 26-23 at intermission. Butler continued the surge into the third period and led 37-34 heading to the final quarter.

The Stallions outscored Butler 15-11 in the final eight minutes to record the come-from-behind win.

South Pointe is 1-1 on the year.

York tops Stuart Cramer

The York Cougars defeated Stuart Cramer, 73-58, in a non-region battle at York Wednesday night.

Stuart Cramer led 18-17 after one quarter and 32-31 at halftime. The Cougars took a 50-47 lead after three periods. York dominated the final quarter and pulled away for the win.

The Cougars are 1-1 on the year.

Indian Land tops Nation Ford

The Indian Land Warriors came from behind in the last quarter and defeated the Nation Ford Falcons in a non-region contest at Indian Land Monday night.

The Warriors led 16-15 after one period and 35-28 at halftime. The Falcons used a strong performance in the third period to take a 57-52 lead heading into the final stanza.

Indian Land outscored Nation Ford 25-10 in the final eight minutes to earn the come-from-behind victory.

Destin Clark led the Warriors with 22 points and John Fosu chipped in 14. Tyler Thaxton was the top scorer for the Falcons with 23 points. Ty Strawhorn added 17 for Nation Ford.

Indian Land is 3-1 on the year.

Chester records two wins

The Chester Cyclones picked up a pair of non-region wins earlier in the week.

The Cyclones eared a 54-46 win over Broome at Chester Tuesday night.

The Cyclones trailed 8-2 after one period, but closed the deficit to 26-17 at intermission. A strong third period gave the Cyclones a 40-32 lead heading to the final eight minutes. They hung on in the final period to secure the victory.

The Cyclones got a second victory with a 58-46 road win against C. A. Johnson on Wednesday night.

Chester is 2-0 on the year.

Lewisville topples McBee

The Lewisville Lions opened the season with as 63-40 win over McBee in a non-region game on Wednesday night at McBee.

Demetric Hardin led the way for the Lions with 26 points.

Liberty Heights tops York Prep

Liberty Heights defeated the York Prep Patriots 59-48 in a non-region game at York Prep Thursday night.

Jeremy Baker led Liberty Heights with 14 points. Kendall Davis was the top scorer for York Prep with a game-high 15 points. Kory Davis added 12 points for the Patriots.

Great Falls splits two

The Great Falls Red Devils started the season by splitting a pair of non-region games.

On Tuesday night they edged the York Cougars, 66-61, in overtime.

York led 20-13 after one period and 35-26 at half. Great Falls rallied in the third quarter and trimmed the deficit to 45-43. They outscored York 9-7 in the final eight minutes to send the contest to overtime, where they won 14-9 to earn the hard-fought come-from-behind victory.

On Wednesday night the Red Devils were defeated by Fairfield Central, 56-50, in Winnsboro.

Great Falls is 1-1 on the year.

WRESTLING

Clover wins two of three

The Clover Blue Eagles won two of three matches in a quad meet at Boiling Springs Wednesday night.

Clover opened the match with a 57-24 win over Broome. They added a 54-30 win over Crest, before losing 45-36 to Boiling Springs in the final match.

Nation Ford earns two wins

The Nation Ford Falcons opened the season with a pair of wins in a tri-match at Nation Ford.

The Falcons defeated Catawba Ridge 89-12 and toppled Heathwood Hall 57-12.

Catawba Ridge won the final match in the event with a 48-18 decision over Heathwood Hall.

South Pointe edges Fort Mill

The South Pointe Stallions defeated the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 46-38 in a non-region match at South Pointe Wednesday night.
