From the latest coaching polls, to a rundown of the area’s scores — The Herald has you covered in this week’s high school roundup.

Coaches release latest rankings

The South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association has announced its latest rankings, and four area schools are included.

South Pointe is second in 4A. Clover is third in 5A, and Nation Ford is eighth in 5A. Andrew Jackson is ninth in 2A.

Clover routs Forestview

The Clover Blue Eagles routed Forestview 69-36 in a non-region game at Clover Tuesday night.

The Blue Eagles held a 14-8 lead after one period and used a strong second period to race to a 38-12 margin at halftime. They cruised from there for the one-sided win.

Alesha Wade led the charge for Clover with 28 points.

Clover is 6-1 overall on the year.

Rock Hill rips Gaffney

The Rock Hill Bearcats ripped Gaffney 63-40 in a non-region contest at Rock Hill Tuesday night.

The ‘Cats took a 15-4 lead after one period and increased it to 30-8 at intermission. Gaffney regrouped and closed the deficit to 40-27 after three periods, but Rock Hill pulled away in the final eight minutes for the victory.

Gracie Wilson led the Bearcats with 16 points. Dynasty Pichardo added 14 and pulled down ten rebounds. Unique Burch tossed in 13, and Jada Jones added 10 to the winning effort.

Rock Hill is 5-1 on the year.

Nation Ford blasts Lancaster

The Nation Ford Falcons blasted the Lancaster Bruins 76-40 in a non-region game at Nation Ford Tuesday night.

The Falcons led 19-10 after one period and upped the count to 37-23 at halftime. They coasted to the win in the second half.

Kelci Adams led the Falcons with 19 points. Adrienne Ruffallo followed with 17, while Denaundria Greene scored 16. Kaitlyn Richmond got 12, and Payton Brookover chipped in 10.

Nation Ford is 6-2 overall on the year.

Fort Mill gets by River Bluff

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets defeated River Bluff 48-37 in a non-region game at River Bluff Tuesday night.

Fort Mill led 12-8 after one period, but River Bluff came back and took a 22-21 at halftime. Fort Mill surged in the third period and took a 35-28 lead when it was over, and they gradually pulled away down the stretch for the victory.

Fort Mill is 3-3 overall on the year.

Northwestern tops Covenant Day

The Northwestern Trojans defeated Covenant Day 38-24 in a non-region contest at Covenant Day Tuesday night.

The Trojans are 1-4 overall on the year.

York tops Stuart Cramer

The York Cougars beat Stuart Cramer 29-21 in a non-region game at Stuart Cramer Tuesday night.

York is 2-3 on the year.

Chester wins twice

The Chester Cyclones won a pair of non-region contests earlier in the week.

On Tuesday they nipped Pageland Central 39-36 a game on the road.

Chester led 11-8 after one quarter and increased it to 23-13 at intermission. Pageland Central came back in the second half, but the Cyclones held on down the stretch to earn the win.

On Wedesday night they got by C. A. Johnson 54-44 in a game at Chester.

The Cyclones are 5-0 on the year.

Catawba Ridge topples North Gaston

The Catawba Ridge Copperhead defeated North Gaston 53-38 in a non-region game at Catawba Ridge Tuesday night.

The Copperheads are 6-2 on the year.

Andrew Jackson defeats York Prep

Andrew Jackson established a 19-9 lead after one period and went on to defeat the York Prep Patriots 68-48 at York Prep Tuesday night.

The Patriots are 1-3 on the year.

Timmonsville tops Lewisville

Timmonsville used a strong second half and defeated the Lewisville Lions 47-17 in a non-region game at Timmonsville Thursday night.

Timmonsville led 17-8 at the half, and they outscored Lewisville 29-9 in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Allie Keels led Lewisville with six points, 10 rebounds, five steals, and three blocked shots. Indy Tobias added four points and hauled in rebounds.

Lewisville is 1-4 overall on the year.

Legion College eases by Comenius

The Legion Collegiate Lancers toppled Comenius School 48-42 in a non-region game at Comenius Tuesday night.

The Lancers erased a 7-6 deficit after one period and took an 18-16 lead at halftime. Comenius came back for a 31-29 lead after three periods, but the Lancers stormed back in the final eight minutes to pick up the victory.

Legion Collegiate is 1-1 on the year.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Coaches release latest rankings

Rock Hill nips Gaffney

The Rock Hill Bearcats edged Gaffney 50-49 in a non-region game at Rock Hill Tuesday night.

Gaffney broke a 6-6 tie after one period to take a 21-17 lead at intermission. Rock Hill used a solid third period to take a 35-31 lead and hung on in the final period to earn the victory.

Devin Crayton and Luke Bracey led Rock Hill with a dozen points each.

The ‘Cats are 3-3 on the year.

Lancaster topples Nation Ford

Lancaster broke open a close game at halftime and defeated the Nation Ford Falcons 63-35 in a non-region contest at Nation Ford Tuesday night.

Lancaster led 31-23 at intermission, but outscored the Falcons 32-12 in the final two periods for the win.

Petey Tuipuloto led Nation Ford with 15 points.

The Falcons are 3-5 on the year.

River Bluff tops Fort Mill

River Bluff defeated the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 56-42 in a non-region game at River Bluff Tuesday night.

River Bluff took a 28-13 at halftime and moved on from there to record the victory.

Keyan Mims paced the Yellow Jackets with 16 points. Jordan Herman and C. J. McNeil added 10 each for Fort Mill.

The Yellow Jackets are 4-2 on the year.

Forestview edges Clover

Forestview nipped the Clover Blue Eagles 54-51 in a non-region game at Clover Tuesday night.

Forestview led 12-10 after one period and upped the count to 27-19 at halftime. The Blue Eagles used a strong third period to tie the game at 35-35 heading to the final quarter. Forestview outscored Clover 19-16 in the final period to earn the win.

The Blue Eagles are 1-2 on the year.

York defeats Stuart Cramer

The York Cougars broke a 32-32 tie at halftime and went on to claim a 74-58 victory over Stuart Cramer in a non-region game at Stuart Cramer Tuesday night.

The Cougars outscored Stuart Cramer 19-10 in the third period to get a 51-42 advantage. They gradually pulled away in the final period for the win.

York is 3-1 on the year.

Chester wins two

The Chester Cyclones picked up a pair of wins earlier in the week.

On Tuesday night they defeated Pageland Central 70-54 on the road and followed on Wednesday night with a 100-36 rout of C. A. Johnson at home.

Chester took command in the Pageland Central game with a 39-27 lead at halftime. They coasted from there for the win.

Against C. A. Johnson the Cyclones took a 30-7 lead after one period and never looked back. They were ahead 57-12 at halftime.

The Cyclones are 4-1 on the year.

Catawba Ridge defeats North Gaston

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads toppled North Gaston 68-48 in a non-region game at Catawba Ridge Tuesday night.

The Copperheads took a 17-12 lead after one period on their way to a 35-21 cushion at halftime. They cruised from there for the victory.

Catawba Ridge is 3-3 on the year.

Lewisville edges Timmonsville

The Lewisville Lions edged Timmonsville 53-49 in a non-region game at Timmonsville Thursday night.

The Lions are 2-2 overall on the year.

York Prep tops Andrew Jackson

The York Prep Patriots topped Andrew Jackson 62-51 in a non-region game at York Prep Tuesday night.

The Patriots opened a 17-10 lead after one period and turned in a solid second quarter for a 37-15 advantage at intermission. Andrew Jackson cut the deficit to 46-33 after three quarters, and the Patriots weathered a fourth quarter rally to claim the win.

D. J. Barksdale led York Prep with 19 points. Aaron Johnson added 16, and Kendall Davis chipped in a dozen.

York Prep is 4-1 on the year.

WRESTLING

Clover dominates Spartanburg

The Clover Blue Eagles defeated Spartanburg 63-18 in a non-region match at Spartanburg Thursday night.

Pro boxing event

Professional boxing returns to Rock Hill Saturday with two heavyweight bouts on a full card of bouts at Rock Hill Gymnastics, 400 Mount Gallant Road.

Moses Johnson of Rock Hill fights in the main event. Fellow heavyweight Kahlil Smoot is fighting in another heavyweight bout.

Both boxers train at St. Michael’s Gym in Rock Hill under professional boxer Mike Englert. Englert is a Rock Hill Police Department sergeant.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Bouts start at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.

Battle at the Rock

The national basketball showcase runs from Thursday to Saturday. On Saturday, games run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
